Whats the 'pole shift' that people claim is taking place?causing quake,bird deaths?

i read comments where people say a pole shift is taking place. what is it? cause i thought it takes thousands of years for poles to flip and even then, we wont even feel it. so whats this bout birds dying being a sign of upcoming pole shift?
