Temperture controller broke?
There is a door that is part of the the heater box that opens to let the heat from from the heater core into the car, closes to block it off. Here is the thing...... sometimes moisture builds up from condensation, and will freeze the door into position. sometimes the actuator cable binds, and bends freezing it into position. If the rod, or door are binding, a new controller [used to you] will end up like this one. It is important to make certain that the door and rod are working. you would need to remove the controller. I gather you cant, or don't know how. Find a controller, and take it to a shop that is not busy, present $100, and the controller, see if there are any takers. Tell them that is all you got. Don't roll in there dropped on 20's and have a 2k stereo. You will be leaving with your still broken controller, 20's, and stereo. Tell them you want the controller installed. You get no warranty, but it's cheaper than the alternative. Remember it's plastic, really old, brittle, cold plastic. You won't get heat until the engine is at operating temp. Give it a few minutes, or move to Arizona. Good Luck you can also fix the door into the open position to get thru the winter. it is on the penger side under the glove compartment
